Two problems, linked directly or indirectly to real estate activity, currently afflict Brazil: the serious housing deficit and the shortage of hotel rooms in cities that are noted as tourist destinations. This paper, presented at the Third Business Law Conference in Bahia, examines the legal aspects of the so-called condo hotel, with emphasis on the relevant function of this mechanism as a source of financing projects. It also reviews the rules on real estate investment funds, whose expansion in recent years has been no accident, but rather fruit of key normative improvements.
